Highlights

Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology IDMT

At Fraunhofer IDMT in Ilmenau, researchers are using AI to make audio and video data smarter – and more trustworthy. Their technologies help monitor industrial sound, support forensic investigations, recommend music, and track biodiversity through acoustic signals. For all this, the institute develops tools to ensure trustworthy handling of sensitive data.

Fraunhofer IDMT is also a leader in immersive 3D audio – whether for concert halls, cars, or VR worlds. In addition, the team works on active noise control to reduce unwanted sound in buildings and vehicles.
The institute’s expertise in intelligent signal control extends even to photovoltaics: structure-borne sound enables the automated cleaning of solar panels.

Fraunhofer IDMT is based on the campus of Technische Universität Ilmenau in Thuringia. More than 100 employees from over 18 nations shape the future of audio and media technology here. The institute is part of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Europe’s leading applied research organization.
